For many, work is just work — a job, a means to an end, a way to pay the bills. To me this is terribly sad and makes it difficult to live with fulfilment. But for some, work is their passion — their vocation — it pays the bills and it is also fulfilling.
“The biggest mistake that you can make is to believe that you are working for somebody else…The driving force of a career must come from the individual.
Remember: Jobs are owned by the company, you own your career!”
– Earl Nightingale
The fact is that the high cost of living, combined with our desire to have more and more, can mean we are under constant pressure to get ahead. When we are aware of what we need to live and what it will cost to get the extra things we want, we often experience fear, which may either help us to achieve or hinder our progress.
In the short-term, fear of not meeting our commitments may motivate us, but in the long-term, there are negative consequences to being driven by fear — including stress. When we work each day and when work is our passion, we are motivated in a positive and long-term way towards achieving success and meeting our commitments.
But if your current work is not your passion, don’t jump ship yet. Because for many, once they implement the superpowers of belief, conviction and commitment and the five qualities of True Believers into their lives, they discover that they really do love their work. Work on you before you blame your work then decide if the work needs to change.
Then if it does need to change – jump ship!
