We want to enjoy our life journey – as it happens – before we arrive at our destination. Often, when we reach a destination, it can be an anti-climax because we didn’t get things done that really matter. By focusing each day and every day on what is important, we can reach the end of our lives and not be riddled with regrets.
There is not an infinite number of days left
Sadly I sat at a funeral recently and a question kept ticking over in my mind. “Had the life before me been a full and rich life with few regrets?” Funerals remind us that the clock is always ticking – time stops for no one. There is not an infinite number of days left and every precious minute counts. As Thoreau said, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”
Have no regrets – don’t settle!
Make it your mission to reject “settling” and aim higher than ever before to live a full and rich life. Know that others have walked this path and it is possible. It begins with the decision to be active – not passive. Don’t settle for what is – but rather reach for what can be. My favourite advice from Twain sums it up, “ Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.”
Don’t settle for a life you think you’re stuck in. Get the things done that matter and live a life that rocks!
On the third stroke it will be Don’t Settle O’clock – act now!
